Joe Biden calls for tripling of tariffs on Chinese steel

US President Joe Biden is pushing for tariffs to triple on Chinese steel and aluminum, as he seeks to boost union support in the swing state of Pennsylvania.

In a meeting with United Steelworkers union members in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Biden will call on trade representative Katherine Tai to triple the tariff on the imports from the current average of 7.5 per cent.

Biden’s campaign is trying to shore up support among union workers ahead of November’s US presidential election, in which Pennsylvania could play a decisive role.

“It is important for us to get ahead of China&rsquo…  Read more

The whole notion that America is losing jobs due to insufficient tariffs is stupid. In a free trade, each side gives up one thing it wants less in return for something it wants more – both sides benefit. Otherwise, why would they trade at all? If there was a winner or a loser in international trade, why does the alleged "loser" continue trading? Because both sides are actually winners.

“We must invest in American manufacturing, but we also have to protect those investments and those workers from unfair exports associated with China’s industrial overcapacity,”

Next time when another country does it and on American imports / products, remember this America.

Don't peddle globalization when you are peddling protectionist policies for the last 4 years. You are breeding inefficiencies in your industries and one day it will go bust.

Trump falls $75million Behind Joe Biden In Money Race As Donor Base Shrinks

Donald Trump has raised $75mn less for his presidential bid than Joe Biden and has 270,000 fewer unique donors now than at the same stage of his run for the White House four years ago.

The findings, from a Financial Times analysis of federal campaign data, raise new questions about how the former president’s shrunken base will sustain him through costly court cases and what is expected to be the most expensive presidential race ever.

The Trump campaign and affiliated political action committees have attracted roughly 900,000 donors from July 2023 through the first quarter of 2024, compare…  Read more

If anything this article epitomizes the decline in US democracy, with the US Supreme Court particularly to blame with their ill-thought through decision in the Citizen United case. Presidential elections, to a certain degree, can be rightly said to be bought.

 @MindfulLocustDemocrat from Minnesota commented…4wks4W

No sane political party would run again with the same candidate who has lost them the past three elections. The massive drop in donor numbers shows their own base is tired of his face.

Republicans aren’t a normal party anymore though. Even the RNC is staffed by Trump family members now. It’s like a mafia takeover.

Google employees arrested while protesting the company's $1.2B contract with Israel

Google employees who occupied the California office of Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian for more than eight hours to demand the company stop doing business with Israel were arrested late Tuesday.

The employees broadcast their protest on a “notech4apartheid’ Twitch livestream. The video showed they given the opportunity to leave voluntarily, and then arrested by police after refusing to do so.

In the stream, a man is seen approaching the protesters to notify them that they were put on administrative leave and asking them to leave.

They're like irrationally scared of accidentally getting a flake of fentanyl on their skin. From what I've heard there's no way for there to be danger in it happening, but they're so worked up that they faint when it happens. Seriously weird stuff.

Republican Arizona Senate Candidate Tells Voters To Strap On A Gun

Arizona GOP Senate hopeful Kari Lake told supporters they can "strap on a Glock" to be prepared for the intensity of the 2024 campaign and urged military and law enforcement veterans to be "ready," as her race heats up in a key battleground state.

“We need to send people to Washington, D.C., that the swamp does not want there,” Lake said toward the end of a Sunday speech to a crowd of Arizonans in Mohave County. “And I can think of a couple people they don’t want there. First on that list is Donald J. Trump; second is Kari Lake.”

Asian ACLU employee complains to black boss about abusive work environment. Is fired for being "racist."

During her five years as a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union, she was an unsparing critic of her superiors, known for sending long, blistering emails to human resources complaining about what she described as a hostile workplace.

She considered herself a whistle blower and advocate for other women in the office, drawing unflattering attention to an environment she said was rife with sexism, burdened by unmanageable workloads and stymied by a fear-based culture.

Based on the progressive vote, white Americans can now tell Black Americans what constitutes racism. Should be interesting.

"44 House members voted against a resolution describing the chant “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” as antisemitic.

The “no” votes came largely from progressive Democrats, as well as Republican Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a frequent opponent of measures supporting Israel and condemning antisemitism.

A seemingly perfect example of the toxicity of the intersectionality hierarchy. All that matters in determining who is right or wrong is to look at where someone’s identity places them on the perceived intersectional victim pyramid.

50,000 Russian Soldiers Confirmed Dead In Ukraine War

Russia's military death toll in Ukraine has now passed the 50,000 mark, the BBC can confirm.

In the second 12 months on the front line - as Moscow pushed its so-called meat grinder strategy - we found the body count was nearly 25% higher than in the first year.

BBC Russian, independent media group Mediazona and volunteers have been counting deaths since February 2022.

New graves in cemeteries helped provide the names of many soldiers.

Our teams also combed through open-source information from official reports, newspapers and social media.

Also, the 50k are only the confirmed deaths, so the real number is of course multiple times higher.

These 50k are people who have been identified and confirmed dead, one by one.

 @Minarchist-08Libertarian from Washington commented…4wks4W

When we give money to Ukraine (who has ZERO chance of winning) this is what we're doing. We are prolonging carnage and human suffering. If you support that, you have to ask yourself why. Why do you want to make a hopeless foreign war seven thousand miles away longer, when that means more deaths and horrific casualties?

 @TenaciousPartisanForward from Georgia commented…1mo1MO

That's way more than I would have guessed. Consider that the US lost about 7,000 troops during the entirety of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and those conflicts spanned the better part of a decade. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has only lasted a bit over 2 years.

4 Children Killed In Israel Bombing Of Maghazi refugee camp

It contains an Establishment/Neocon wing that loves war even more than Biden and a MAGA wing that wants to put America First.

The VP pick will tell us which of these wings the future of the party really belongs to.
