How might approaching social issues with a mindset of 'love your neighbor' transform public policy?

 @9KPBF7SDemocrat from Florida answered…2mos2MO

Maslow's hierarchy of need demonstrates that, until our basic needs are met, we cannot sustain higher levels of thought that include citizenship and empathy. Establishing a safe, just society is what will transform public policy, because it will transform us from survivors to fellow-citizens.

 @9KQ5W6YRepublican from North Carolina disagreed…2mos2MO

What our government lacks is empathy and compassion. Having empathy and compassion towards one another will help parties compromise and will increase the work that needs to be done.

 @9KPBB3CIndependent from Illinois answered…2mos2MO

You aren’t basing it on who you like or know and who you don’t

 @9KS5FFJLibertarian from California disagreed…2mos2MO

On a large scale you can say you could pretty much feel neutral, but from country to country if you dislike each other then there is a major problem with future relations between those nations. This will further spread into further division when one tries to one up the other causing multiple parties having no unity.

 @9KPBBSP from North Carolina answered…2mos2MO

We would treat others how we would want to be treated. Less hate in our world.

 @9KPB8FX from Kentucky answered…2mos2MO

Well it might help people sit down and have an honest to goodness talk and listen to each other instead of screaming over each other.

How might the policy-making process change if active listening and empathy were required skills for all politicians?

 @9JP42FZDemocrat from Virginia answered…3mos3MO

I feel as though many policies would benefit lower income people.

 @9JPBNW3 from California agreed…3mos3MO

With a sense of genuine empathy, we wouldn't have people up on thrones throwing pity at the poor, we'd have understanding and better-suited solutions and that's essential at this point.

 @9JPB9FM from California agreed…3mos3MO

A politician without empathy or active listening skills would not listen to any other politicians, meaning they are not open-minded, why wouldn't I want someone open-minded running my country?

 @9JP9LWY from Maryland agreed…3mos3MO

Empathetic people are generally more open-minded and can connect with people who live different lives from them.

 @9JP3VK6 from Virginia answered…3mos3MO

Topics concerning the right to life, such as in making abortions illegal, would happen.

 @9JPB9XP from Indiana agreed…3mos3MO

If people would start listening to other people instead of the Bible people's stances will change and abortion would be legal.

 @9JP437W from Oklahoma answered…3mos3MO

I would just think it would be more complicated for politicians to run for bigger roles like president since there would be more required skills and knowledge.

 @9JPDMY4Women’s Equality from Utah agreed…3mos3MO

It'd be harder for candidates to even try and be able to have the position they wish to have if there were standards that were set a little too high.

 @9JP3PC3Independent from Massachusetts answered…3mos3MO

Well we could potentially see much more positive changes for you average American and maybe even other country citizens.

 @9JP7NRP from North Carolina agreed…3mos3MO

Politicians would be able to relate to the people and think about the good of the country, not just power.

What might happen if policymakers considered the long-term spiritual wellbeing of a society along with economic growth?

 @9K8RTV6 from Georgia commented…3mos3MO

They might consider the greediness and aggression of capitalism more, and how it affects the public mentally and spiritually.

 @9KCR952 from Indiana answered…2mos2MO

It could promote mental health a lot including just regular health. I think this could create a more fufilling and open compassionate society. Hate could be toned down a bit and people could speak their minds.

 @9KCR57J from Texas answered…2mos2MO

If policymakers considered the long-term spiritual wellbeing of a society along with economic growth, it could lead to a more balanced and sustainable approach to governance. By acknowledging the importance of spirituality in people's lives, policymakers could work towards creating a society that is not only economically prosperous but also spiritually fulfilled. This could include policies that promote mental health, social connections, and a sense of purpose. Additionally, it could lead to the recognition and preservation of cultural and spiritual traditions, which could help foster a sense of unity and national pride. Ultimately, by taking a holistic approach to governance that considers both material and spiritual needs, policymakers could create a society that is more resilient, harmonious, and fulfilling for all.

If you had to measure the success of a nation by the happiness and spiritual fulfillment of its people, what indicators would you use?

 @9KDRRPV  from North Carolina answered…2mos2MO

The amount of money being spent, the suicides rates.

 @EnderKilgannon  from Indiana disagreed…2mos2MO

Suicide rates yes, but money spending is not happiness. I believe we need to go deeper than suicide rates but number of people going to therapy, counseling, and use anonymous reporting from mental health surveys sent out at random, counting refusals as possible ignoring a mental health issue.

 @9KDS3MS from North Carolina answered…2mos2MO

 @9KDRWMH from Nebraska answered…2mos2MO
