If the state had a significant role in the music industry, how might that change the variety and content of the music you listen to?

Music is art, and there is much of art I don’t understand, agree with, or like. However, you cannot control someone’s artistic desires by something as cumbersome and unwieldy as “government”. Specific regulations like “no pornography in public museums” are fine, but a state can’t “take control” over art, let alone music, without smothering it.

It might be more localized bands or singers. The state would probably only know local artists.

It would be a lot less progressive since opposition of the government or any form of government could be flagged.

it will show a demographics of genres but also division becausde alot of people mix up genres
