Agreed, school truancy is kinda dumb. It's like "go to school or your parents go to jail"... :/
I don't think kids should be punished for 'not trying' and being 'naturally bad'. I think school should be more-engaging. Cut out the excess time spent doing nothing! I loved the academic part of school in elementary and middle school, but in high school we learned practically nothing and I dropped out even though I had straight A's because, among other reasons, I doubted that I could even get a GED given how little I was learning. (I did, though, got all of the tests the first try! )
It feels like school now-a-days is just a participation grade, and a lot of time is spent sitting around, doing nothing. It's VERY boring. So, punishing kids for not going to school is extremely stupid. Maybe if they were actually taught things they wouldn't be truant. ;) Just a thought.
If I ever have kids, I would probably homeschool them. Public school punishes kids for talking to each other, for being antsy and sometimes being rebellious when they have to sit around doing nothing, for standing up to oneself if one is bullied, etc. There's so much unnecessary drama and not enough knowledge being gained for public school to be worth it. But, if I were to move somewhere with a decent school system, I might change my mind. Idk...
That was long. I'm still mad at how much time I had to spend in school and how little I gained from it. Work is encouraging, at least. Having a job is awesome; I actually get to do stuff, now! :D And I can gain information from talking to people.
