Depending on the situation, I do think it is appropriate to get child services involved if the parent is knowingly allowing the child to be in an unsafe situation as a result of missing school. For example, a high school student that stays home alone from school isn’t a safety issue because they are old enough to take care of themselves. However, if a parent is allowing a child that is 5 years old to miss school and leaving them home alone because the parent is at work, that would be considered neglect and child endangerment as that child is too young to be home alone. In this case I would support legal action against the parent.
