Yes, but social media companies need to be properly classified as either a publisher or a platform and then regulated accordingly. We should not allow them to continue to play the game of claiming to be a publisher when they want to censor, and to be a platform when they don't want the responsibilities that come along with content regulation and censorship. However, in either case, the government should not be allowed to determine what fake vs real news is.
