In a shocking incident early Tuesday, Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge suffered a catastrophic collapse after being struck by a large ship. The collapse sent vehicles and potentially people into the water below, sparking a major emergency response in the area. The incident occurred when a large outbound vessel collided with one of the bridge's support columns, leading to a dramatic structural failure that was captured in video footage. Maryland officials and Baltimore City police were quickly on the scene, confirming the partial collapse of the bridge at around 1:35 a.m.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge, an iconic structure in Baltimore, is now the center of a dire emergency as rescue and recovery efforts are underway. The collapse has not only caused immediate danger to those caught in the incident but also poses significant disruptions to traffic and commerce in the region. The bridge is a vital artery for the city, and its sudden failure raises questions about the safety of infrastructure and the risks posed by large vessels navigating close to critical structures.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collision and assessing the full extent of the damage. The focus remains on search and rescue operations, ensuring the safety of any individuals who may have been affected by the collapse. The community is in shock as they witness the aftermath of this unprecedented event, and officials are urging the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to conduct their work efficiently.
The incident has sparked a broader…

Ultimately, the responsibility for safety of the vessel is ALWAYS with the captain of vessel, Pilot vessel or not. The ship hit a pillar of the bridge, so someone at the wheel did not pay attention, had power failure, or the vessel was gong too fast to turn in time or both.
@LynxJayTranshumanist1mo1MO
Possible. But also reports that there was a failure (electrical) on the boat, which the pilot may not have been able to control. (Point of information: while in Baltimore Harbor, all ships are run by a Harbor-licensed pilot [not captain] who has years of training and experience to do that job in that Harbor.)
So let's see what the investigation turns up. Pilot error? Possible. Ship owners' equipment/maintenance failure? Possible.
Let's allow the investigation to proceed, instead of all us armchair "experts" (not) speculating wildly.
How to create thousands of life-threatening disasters (just like this one) in 3 easy steps:
(1) Instead of hiring the best possible workers to produce these structures based on intelligence, excellence, and merit, discriminate against qualified applicants in order to hire more workers with favoured skin colours.
(2) Once you've done everything in your power to prevent hard-working and dedicated people from joining your company, make a point of firing as many of the decent workers who still remain working for you as you can.
(3) By this point you've made it clear that not only don'… Read more

It was built in the 70s, you think affirmative action was used for that?
Affirmative Action started in the 60s, under LBJ, so possibly. I did not mean to say that this bridge specifically was built with DEI labour, I just meant to say that we can expect MORE of these situations if we do not cut out the DEI cancer entirely.
@9CJ6CB64wks4W
I truly don’t care much about affirmative action, it only really needs application in very niche areas, so I don’t care if it disappears from construction, but I find it ridiculous to call a “cancer” by any means.

It's bad... City design should be more friendly to walkers and provide more train/bus services like European cities to prevent things like this

Devastating deaths destruction causing tremendous problems that will be lasting for quite some time.
This “accident “ will have an effect on many and even when it comes to shipping and supply chain issues.
Praying for the families that have lost their loved ones.
@9L58LZ31mo1MO
It's a terrible thing that happened and I think the cause needs to be found.
@9L582QB1mo1MO
I think that it is a terrible incident.
@9L5DNM61mo1MO
This topic is breaking news because people lost family members and friends on that bridge.
@9L5D28Y1mo1MO
my opinion is that the bridge breaking down was all planned
@9L584YK1mo1MO
I think it was a catastrophe and a horrible accident. I think it was due to mechanical issues.
@9L54LWDLibertarian1mo1MO
I think it is very important due to the fact that it affects all the American citizens living in that area
@9L58P791mo1MO
It shouldn't have happened in the first place.
@9L55H53Republican1mo1MO
The bridge should be funded by the government to rebuild
Horrible thought. It is tragic to see those construction vehicles parked on that span as it collapses. The poor people working there.
I think this case should be further looked into
