There are many people here in America that can barely make ends meet and they have good paying jobs, are contributing to their debt, paying taxes, and living below their means. There are veterans in need of homes and food. There are adolescents that need help and resources. There is the problem of drug addiction and a need for required one year rehabilitation facilities. There are expecting mothers in need of support and safety. There is also the issue of domestic violence and rape that need to be addressed. As well as the school system that is not helping anyone become well-rounded individuals that know the very basics of living such as money management, filing taxes, cooking, self-defense, growing food, building a fire, car knowledge and driving, how to run a business, and emphasis on learning in regard to the students needs and interests. I think that high school courses should be geared toward the students interests with a requirement of having foreign language for two years, mathematics for one year (beyond basic skills such as multiplication and division), science for three years (of student's choice), history for two years (U.S. Constitution and Government and U.S. History), public speaking/communications for one year, and English for at least one year with an emphasis on individual skill level. There should be an emphasis on previous grades and test scores to move forward. There should be a Basic life essentials class that introduces basic skills such as cooking and baking, how to change a tire and driving skills, simple electrical skills, self-defense (taught by law enforcement), and CPR testing (required to retest every two years depending on individual student planning). There should also be a required in depth personal finance class and a Agriculture class. There should be a required observation form for students' interest.
