76% of Israelis opposed Netanyahu continuing as Prime Minister in a November 2023 poll. Chuck Schumer is not taking a position that is counter to mainstream Israeli public opinion. In fact, it's a much more marginal opinion to actively support the continued rule of Netanyahu

But he IS taking a position. And interfering in another country’s elections.

I think the issue is timing. Israelis don't want Netanyahu around but I think a majority probably don't want to change leaders in the middle of the war.

Chuck Schumer said Israel must hold new elections to throw out the religious extremists like Smotrich and Ben-Gvir. But after months of radicalization from the war, a new election could easily put *more* religious extremists into power. In fact, that seems the likelier outcome

 @AwedCivilRightsSocialist from Kansas commented…2mos2MO

Chuck Schumer also said We're gonna get you that $14 billion regardless of what happens so just hang tight

 @BetrayedBallotTranshumanistfrom Montana disagreed…2mos2MO

Sorry that's panic porn

No one in Israel cares what Schumer says

But Israel will def hold elections soon - when Hamas War pause or halt - and no way will "religious extremists" gain seats in the Knesset. Netanyahu will lose majority/PM and "religious extremists" will lose seats or maybe maintain but if latter still go back to powerless fringe where were before Netanyahu partnered with them and gave senior roles for first time

really don’t think that kind of thing is helpful. It’s not Schumer’s job to pick a prime minister for Israel, that might well backfire. It would be his job to stop financing war crimes, but of course he’ll never do that.

 @MinorityWhipCamelGreen from Arizona agreed…2mos2MO

One of the reasons Netanyahu is keeping the war going is that he wants nobody analyzing the 10/7 terrorist attack and asking why so many warnings were ignored, and Nova festival moved into the line of fire, and hostages fired at along w terrorists. So I doubt he’ll be reelected.

Geez, are these articles just written by different reporters or writers on @ISIDEWITH or something? Personally, I applaud his commitment, but I’d say it’s poor timing since that puts relations to actually forge a ceasefire on hold. My personal opinions outside of that remain apart from this discussion, but I do agree with Schumer’s message, not with him speaking it right now.

Netanyahu may not have as much support, but a poll of Israelis showed overwhelming support for the action in Gaza. A change in leadership will change nothing. Schumer's little speech is about the upcoming election and the Democrat's support of ethnic cleansing.

 @L3gislat1veValentinaSocialist from Texas commented…2mos2MO

Dems distance themselves from Biden's Gaza disaster. The program is to now blame "right wing" Netanyahu and his "right wing" backers in the US. Dump the Gaza mess on Republicans. Schumer/Dems offered up the bait and the Reps are taking it, hook, line and sinker.

 @ThriftyDemocratAmerican Solidarity from Maryland commented…2mos2MO

Israel doesn't have anyone to start the peace process. Their people don’t want it. This is purely theater. They have to lose first or it becomes unlivable before their mentality changes

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2mos2MO

Do you think the pursuit of peace in the Middle East should prioritize diplomacy or the defeat of certain groups regarded as terrorists, and why?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2mos2MO

How would you balance the need for national alliances with the pressure to adhere to the varying ideologies of a political party's base?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2mos2MO

How important do you believe it is for U.S. foreign policy to reflect the diverse opinions of its citizens, even if those opinions are considered extreme by some?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2mos2MO

What are your thoughts on the idea that a U.S. politician should or should not influence foreign leadership decisions?
