I think there needs to be a balance but more of a focus on ourselves in case another World War breaks out we need to be able to live on our own.
It is an imperative that we have good relations with other countries. However, we must be concerned with our own well-being most. If our country has major conflicts, but we're directing our attention to foreign entities, how could we possibly progress? It's as with individuals in this case. Care for others, but not more than you care for yourself.
