Legalize hard drugs?

The WSJ had an editorial today on Oregon's experiment with legalizing hard drugs.

As governor would you follow the Oregon model?

"The fundamental problem, according to law-enforcement officers and researchers, is that the threat of jail time hasn’t been replaced with a new incentive for people struggling with addiction to seek treatment. Some 6,000 tickets have been issued for drug possession since decriminalization went into effect in 2021, but just 92 people have called and completed assessments needed to connect them to services, according to the nonprofit that operates the helpline."

Potentially

I have always been against the fast spread of deadly drugs such as fentanyl crossing the border into California, and am against the legalization of such a powerful and dangerous drug. However, for more simple and less harmless drugs, I would potentially consider legalization depending on the context and research behind such drugs.

I see Oregon's experiment currently as a failure, but I will continue to monitor its status and results and factor that directly into any and all decisions I make regarding the matter.

What I do plan to do immediately is to use a good portion of the tax revenue from the sales of recreational marijuana within California and invest in rehab and addiction treatment services in the state.

What are your thoughts on border security?

  @TonyForCA  from New Jersey answered…6mos6MO

It's a huge issue

While I do believe that our immigration system is deeply flawed and overly complicated, the mass trafficking of both people and illegal drugs is a huge issue that must be taken care of with immediate urgency. I, as a Democrat, plan to do something most of my party is against, although in a way that every party is not too fond of.

I plan on securing our border with Mexico without making immigration through legal means an impossible task. I believe that we should be searching vehicles that enter/exit through the border, but I feel like we should make the process to legally emigrate much easier and way less complex, as most things expected through the legal process couldn't even be completed by a US-born citizen.

Should the government force everyone to verify their real name on social media?

Nikki Haley asserts that allowing people to post on social media anonymously is a "national security threat". She promises that as president, she will force "every person on social media" to be "verified by their name."

Do you agree with this?

  @TonyForCA  from New Jersey answered…6mos6MO

Absolutely not

Nikki Haley's idea of having to verify people on social media by their "real name" is, in my opinion, a direct violation of the First Amendment. People should have the freedom to express themselves without revealing their real identity to the general public. Some people are in situations where they share/expose information that could result in them being attacked on a personal level.

We've seen it happen many times where either a whistleblower or someone who is a part of a minority is targeted online because of their identity, and we should not be federally mandating any sort of conditions or regulations where there is the potential for a wider spread of hate, especially acts of hate that cross the line such as hate crimes and doxxing.

Privatize rail?

A high speed rail system build by private companies is succeeding in South Florida.

Would you allow private investment in rail to expand?

  @TonyForCA  from New Jersey answered…6mos6MO

Likely not

I have always truly believed in the right to free public transportation.

My plan for California is to end all unnecessary budget spending and end all non-mandatory subsidization of other states so we can solve our issues, one of which is our lack of public transport access.

I plan to invest in a high-speed rail system that would span all across California, and which would begin service with affordable ticket prices, and eventually become free to use as soon as we can ensure that the economy will not be negatively impacted by doing so.

If a private company were to come along and work with the sta…  Read more

How would your rail plan be different that the plan CA has already tried?

  @TonyForCA  from New Jersey commented…6mos6MO

My plan would be far larger than the previous plan, as it would span every corner of the state. My plan would also result in an affordable (eventually free) method of transportation that is incredibly fast. Many other plans I've heard of don't include the consumer cost, but mine will. In fact, I will work to make my plan not only the largest but also the most comprehensive and affordable plan for such a system.

By keeping ticket fares low, we can get more people to start using the system instead of using traditional trains, cars, or planes to travel across the state. I would also wor…  Read more

SF clean up?

San Francisco was miraculously cleaned up over the weekend before Biden and Xi's visit.

Why was SF left to rot when poltiicians can clean this stuff up so easily?

  @TonyForCA  from New Jersey answered…6mos6MO

Career Politicians

The careless, cruel behavior of the career politicians who run California is the reason why San Francisco has been left to rot similarly to how Los Angeles has been left to rot.

Before he was Lieutenant Governor or Governor, Gavin Newsom was the Mayor of San Francisco, and that simply shows you how he could have easily prevented the issues the city now faces when he was Mayor, but he chose not to. The current issues in these major cities isn't solely the fault of their current Mayors, but also the fault of past Mayors and the entire political establishment in California.

They pushed the…  Read more

Newsom was blaming a federal court order that prevented him from getting rid of the homeless, is this true?

  @TonyForCA  from New Jersey commented…6mos6MO

It's always more and more excuses with Newsom.

My plan is incredibly simple and effective.

Work with property developers and construction groups to put up as much quality and affordable permanent housing as possible all across the state. Then, we must work to get the homeless population off the streets and into permanent housing, or rehab if they need it.

We need to work much harder to get people off the streets. I see it as a positive investment back into our economy, as these people will eventually re-enter the workforce, which will positively affect the economy of the state and the nation if we do so in the amounts that I plan to set as minimums.
