It shouldn't be required by government coercion and I don't trust the government to define hate speech. So far it's done a terrible job.

Yea, I don't trust the current government either, because it's wholly un-democratic and corrupt. A good government is a democratic decision-making body made up of ALL of society, otherwise it's just an oligarchy.

Of what..? You know that the US doesn't have any enforced legal definition of hate speech, right? You'd have to look to nations like Germany, where Nazi symbolism is illegal in public. America, however, is proud of it's Naziism, unfortunately.
