Athletes should be ranked similar to chess players, not based on identity components like gender, race, or sex, but on factors that are pertinent to their sport such as skill, experience, size, speed, strength, flexibility, and possibly age. If identity components are pertinent to a sport somehow, they may be considered, but I would wonder why and perhaps look at the situation more critically.
