If fmr. NY Governor Eliot Spitzer, for example, wanted to run for office in 2022, I don't think that would be wrong because soliciting a prostitute isn't that bad. If the candidate is a murderer or financial criminal, that should disqualify them. I think their criminal record is important and should be judged, but it should be counterbalanced with their ideas and, once in office, their efficacy.
