Not right now. The idea of defunding the police, although a trendy idea of now, should be a part of a much larger plan to combat crime. First we need to see investment in social service initiatives as well as other initiatives to see if these services show any benefit. We can intertwine police with these organizations giving them more options when dealing with criminals, especially repeat offenders, or people dealing with mental health issues. The police are there as a last line of defence of force is the only option. Defunding the police could potentially destroy morale on police forces, meaning more cops (especially the good ones) leaving the force. If good cops leave you’re only left with the bad ones, who will contribute to the negative policing we’re witnessing in the media.
