The problem with guns isn't that they're inherently dangerous, its the damage someone bent on harm can do with one. To criminalize an unthinking and inert object while doing nothing about the thinking being who wields it, is to not only turn the purpose of the law on its head, but reality itself. Further, any law introduced that bans certain firearms (or any firearm) will NOT be complied with by the very people who pose a danger with guns (criminals). You will do nothing but embolden criminal activity while decreasing the options peaceful people have to deal with such aggression. All the gun-control schemes I have seen proposed are a "feel-good" solution that solves nothing.

Also, some of the laws currently in place by the ATF do nothing to prevent criminals from obtaining/using said guns or modifications, and instead just hamper law abiding citizens.

Continue to limit the access to guns so criminals would not have access to guns. Also impose more gun laws so mass shootings can be prevented.
Some people who gain access to guns see them as a toy rather than a tool for defense and recreation. With heavy penalties, it should increase thought put into using it prior to doing something crime.

Increased punishments could hopefully fix or make gun violence better. It is the gun shooting someone, it's the person shooting them.

If someone has committed a crime that relates to using a gun then that person shall not be able to own a gun because they knew what the consequences were going to be. Every person no matter the age or experience should be required to take a gun safety class to make sure that they are going to be safe and responsible.

The war on drugs is very similar, because even though substances like cocaine and heroin are illegal, there are black markets that will sell them. If innocent people have their last line of defense taken it will only result in more casualties.
@9KS78VQ1mo1MO
If the gun was used for murder/other crimes, and not for self defense, then the penalties should be increased.
@9HPLXBB4mos4MO
People should only be able to use guns in a public setting if it is to ensure the safety of others, so if it is a gun-related crime, they should be penalized for it.
@9HCKBVB5mos5MO
The increased penalties will make people less likely to commit crimes, and they do not want the punishment
@9FF647K7mos7MO
Criminals should be charged with damaging our public mental health as well as the crime they commited by abusing the seccond amendment.
@9GS3BB85mos5MO
Where banning guns hurts responsible gun owners, having more severe consequences for being convicted of gun-related crime will actually affect those criminals. This still would not solve the underlying issues or provide necessary education in firearm use and safety but an individual will likely be less inclined to commit a crime with knowledge of more severe punishment.

The right to bear arms was included in the Bill of Rights to prohibit the citizenry from persecution by a corrupt government. We should never make the mistake of giving up any part of our 2nd Amendment rights.
@9FHMGGL7mos7MO
penalties on gun related crimes should be kept at a line that doesn't affect anyone too badly like the death sentence everyone should have a second chance to change themselves
@9LNT8MKRepublican15hrs15H
If you buy a gun and you have had past with gun violence then you shouldnt be able to buy the gun. You made that mistake so youll have to deal with the consequences its not the guns fault its the person.
