they should not raise the minimum wage. If they do prices will rise and therefore it would do nothing and make a continuing cycle.

 @9FYLDMH from New York disagreed…6mos6MO

A 16 year old does not need to make a living wage. Increasing pay for all minimum wage workers will just drive up the costs of everything, in turn will increase the cost of living, which will cause an increase in minimum wage, a never ending cycle.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia commented…6mos6MO

A 16 year old isn’t the only one working at McDonald’s, not to mention that so many of their workers don’t have many other options despite being on the doer side. A livable wage is essential to survival, and if that’s too much to ask, we have failed as a nation. The money could easily just come from the companies profits, especially with larger ones that have gained incredibly high returns.

This hypothetical reach of a scenario doesn't include the fact that many teenagers who work help their families or save for later. Everyone deserves a living wage, otherwise, companies get to profit from the exploitation of the workers' labor.

 @9FYNPTXDemocrat from Georgia disagreed…6mos6MO

This statement is likely coming from the same people who believe that a 16-year-old should be denied the option of abortion and fully care for a baby on her own. How can one generalize that a 16-year-old doesn't "need" to make a living wage? People who have a job at 16 years old likely stay with that job or similar ones for many years to come. This means they are also getting that same pay with very minimal raises and chances for advancements. Denying a living wage for 16-year-olds is denying a living wage for those in their mid-twenties. The argument that increasing wages will increase the cost of living quite literally does not make sense. When in reality what has been happening is that the cost of living is rising exponentially, and wages are remaining the same.

 @9GKZCH7  from Illinois disagreed…5mos5MO

You should not raise the minimum wage. Smaller businesses will go out of business and then we will live in corporate America. When you also raise the minimum wage then everything will go up.

 @9GL3LPV from Kentucky agreed…5mos5MO

I completely agree that is evidently how the economy works, even when women had gone into the workforce everything had gotten more expensive.

 @9H4FW4C  from California disagreed…4mos4MO

When minimum wage goes up, the cost of living will go up. There is no way for it to continuously be a “living wage” as a minimum wage worker.

 @9GMC3XZagreed…5mos5MO

Making a living wage would allow people to not need to work multiple jobs to provide for a family or themselves, putting them in a better position to live if they are able to get more money.

 @9G9JS2W from Texas disagreed…5mos5MO

Whenever you raise minimum wage, it leads to companies raising prices of products to compensate, ultimately making your dollar able to buy the exact same amount of product if not less product as before.

If we raise the minimum wage, then everything will become more expensive and employers will be forced to fire people due to wages.

 @9GLZ4GJ from Florida disagreed…5mos5MO

Higher minimum wage does not help. Lowering taxs on businesses, stop strangling small buissness and they could pay more.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas disagreed…5mos5MO

This is literally just "trickle-down economics" and it has been an objective, colossal failure on the economy. It is the complete opposite of how to better an economy.

 @9G8YCN2Peace and Freedom from Texas disagreed…5mos5MO

It would just cause everything to raise in prices and getting to a certain point cause the economical system to break down.

Making minimum wage a livable wage would mean that no matter what bracket you come from, you can make enough money to get by rather than struggling to live with the bare minimum.

 @9GRBWVS from Oklahoma agreed…5mos5MO

Inflation has created an unlivable wage, as prices increase unproportionally to wages paid, and with the minimum wage already being low, it is like beating a horse while it's down. Not only that, but servers and those expected to earn tips are often paid even less, sometimes as little as $5/hour.

 @9GH44VX from Michigan disagreed…5mos5MO

Minimum wage jobs are not meant to be lived on, when working at McDonald's that is not a realistic ob and you should not feel comfortable living off that wage.

 @9GDLTNGfrom Maine agreed…5mos5MO

11% percent of Americans are desperately poor. Many families can't survive on their own, even though they work hard. Everyone should be able to make a living, whilst working full shifts.

 @9FV7C9Jagreed…6mos6MO

Modern minimum wage doesn't get you anything most of the time. Barely enough to put food on the table. IF YOU CAN EVEN AFFORD A TABLE

 @9GMH9CJ from Pennsylvania disagreed…5mos5MO

if minimum wage is raised, everything elses pric will be raises as well, deeming the minimum wage raise useless

 @9GDQNNF from Missouri disagreed…5mos5MO

Increasing the minimum wage simply devalues the American dollar and will cause everything to be more expensive.

With automation and AI, plus other productivity advancements over decades, we can't start working for pennies to compete against robots or overseas workers, because meanwhile inflation is going up. We need to be able to provide good jobs into the future with purpose for our citizens to be able to afford families where both parents don't have to be forced to work, we need to encourage those out of the job market to come off the sidelines and stay in the economy. If we bring these people off the sidelines and provide salaries that continue to increase with economic productivity, we can reverse a large amount of the suicide and drugs epidemic that has been worsening for years.

 @9H4MZHDSocialist from North Carolina agreed…4mos4MO

The minimum wage should at least pay enough so you can pay your taxes and buy food and other necessary things to live. You shouldn't need help from the government because your job doesn't pay enough. Everyone deserves to be able to live comfortably.

 @9GF6LX8 from Wisconsin disagreed…5mos5MO

Minimum wage jobs are typically low skill intensive, beginner jobs at McDonald's or big box retailers. They are not as intensive as jobs with living wages, such as doctors, or engineers. They are meant to be a learning experience and a way for the youth of America to feel independence.

 @9F89XSN from Texas agreed…7mos7MO

If minimum wage isn't enough to live off of then the government is basically saying it is okay to be homeless or not survive.

 @9FWSNZKRepublican from Illinois disagreed…6mos6MO

This will just lead to higher costs of inflation and the salaries of other workers will rise at rates higher than minimum wage. Thus, widening the gap even further

 @9FXCM48Independent from California disagreed…6mos6MO

Minimum wage has to be set in order for our economy to function correctly because if all minimum wage was increased, sales tax and other items would all increase in price causing mass inflation.

 @9FVVQJW from Minnesota disagreed…6mos6MO

.because when you raise minimum wage everything gets more expensive and it eventually isn't a living wage anymore. it is a continuous cycle that causes inflation

 @9FZW4QG from California disagreed…6mos6MO

Minimum wage is just that, minimum. It was established to keep employers from exploiting employees. It was not established to be a living wage. That is earned. Whether it takes 2 jobs or more experience or higher education, that is what a living wage is. Increasing minimum wage only increases the cost of goods which will then be a never ending cycle.

 @9FRDCSJ from Virginia disagreed…6mos6MO

The business are going to have to increase their prices on their products to afford to pay their employee´s which will only drive inflation higher.

 @9GVKBTZ from Georgia disagreed…5mos5MO

A living wage established minimum wage discourages investment in education, an essential building block for a nation, and it disincentivizes investment into trades, an essential in the service economy. Wages rising with skill incentives investment into human capital, and minimum wage artificially increasing instantly stalls investments. Moreover, the prices of all goods at these minimum wage stores would go up, or they would just invest into technology to bypass paying this leading to higher unemployment in the long term and a large unskilled unemployed labor force dependent on help from others.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas disagreed…5mos5MO

It's not the government in charge of private production and services, so blame the private capital-owners who are responsible for those decisions...

 @9GPQ4T8CA Common Sense from Iowa agreed…5mos5MO

Its a constitutional right and fundamental idea to have equal opportunity, and a living wage is able to ensure everyone who works, at least has some sort of opportunity. Furthermore, anything less than a minumum living wage is pretty much human’s rights abuse according to international law even.

 @9GGM8HWLibertarianfrom Virgin Islands disagreed…5mos5MO

Living wage is treated like an entitlement and the result is behaviour does not change. There are many country wide examples of this where the government subsidizes the people and the resulting poverty increases.

 @9GQ6JL3Republican from Texas disagreed…5mos5MO

Minimum wage jobs should not be livable wages. They are entry-level jobs, and should be compensated as such.

 @9G2MY6N from California disagreed…6mos6MO

This position does not grant you much money is the future and should only be a temporary thing to consider.

 @9G2JYLW from Michigan disagreed…6mos6MO

It will continue to inflated the money, so freeze it all, and possibly go into a depression, but we should know how to handle it.

 @9G2XJRRRepublican from Illinois disagreed…6mos6MO

the government should keep the minimum wage the same. minimum wage jobs should not be able to support a family of 5.

 @9FTBBDW from New York disagreed…6mos6MO

No, I think that if someone wants to make a desired income they must work for that and prove to the business and government that you deserve that wage.

 @9FXWW54 from Kentucky disagreed…6mos6MO

People should seek higher education and seek to work for promotions to be able to work up the ladder and earn the money that is necessary to raise a family.
