It could be harmful depending on the person and what they could do as well as kids could find it and possibly hurt themselves

 @9FLKWD2  from New York agreed…6mos6MO

teachers are not trained to use firearms the way law Enforcment is, putting guns in school is more dangerous and gives kids more of a chance to use said guns.

 @9FMB95T from Idaho disagreed…6mos6MO

Teachers should have guns and be trained to use them. They should have biannual reviews/audits to make sure they are up to standard with their control and storage of guns.

  @Ars-Gratia-Artisdisagreed…2mos2MO

Boy howdy, as a kid going to a school that would make me super uncomfortable. Seeing anyone with a gun NOT in a security uniform already sets me on suspicion mode.

Why not private security firms?

 @9G5LCSL from North Carolina disagreed…6mos6MO

How can they defend their students and themselves from active shooters, given that they have received classroom and range safety training, and passed all requirements to possess and fire a firearm?

 @9G844T8 from Michigan agreed…5mos5MO

Yes , I agree with this comment about armed teachers. We would be more safe and protected if teachers can protect us .

 @9G7R6FM from South Carolina agreed…6mos6MO

Having armed teachers who are trained in case of an active shooter can save more lives and defend all until the proper authorities arrive

 @9G9VFLP from North Carolina disagreed…5mos5MO

School shootings should be solved before a teacher is handed a gun. Who knows what the teacher will do with the gun. No guns should be allowed in the U.S.

 @9G9CJH3Republican from Arizona disagreed…5mos5MO

Teachers should have gun because what if there 2 people that dont like each other and they get that gun

 @9G86GX8  from Illinois disagreed…5mos5MO

The armed teacher protocol would introduce firearms into classrooms yes but they would be secured in the teachers person at all times. The teachers would have to undergo training to properly handle weapon systems though. With this training they would be able to respond to emergency situations much easier than throwing books and staplers at someone carrying a firearm.

 @9G87RZG from Oregon agreed…5mos5MO

I do not agree with this comment, bringing firearms into the classroom not only brings students in danger but normalizes the idea of school shootings. School Shootings should not be a normal thing in America. Fire arms need to be taken away from deranged people.

 @9G86GX8  from Illinois commented…5mos5MO

I agree that firearms should be taken away from deranged individuals, but deranged individuals aren’t getting weapons legally for the most part.

 @EuphoricWaspGreen from Pennsylvania disagreed…5mos5MO

While it's true that many deranged individuals obtain firearms illegally, a significant number also access guns legally. For example, the Virginia Tech shooter in 2007 legally purchased guns despite having been previously diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder. This highlights the need for more stringent background checks and restrictions. Do you think that tightening gun control laws could help prevent such incidents?

 @HushedGrizzly from Florida disagreed…5mos5MO

The main role of a teacher is to educate, not to provide security. Introducing guns into a classroom environment, even with training, may shift their focus and add undue pressure. It's also important to consider that in high-stress situations, even trained professionals can make mistakes. For instance, friendly fire incidents among police officers are well-documented. This risk could potentially increase in a chaotic school shooting scenario with multiple armed teachers.

 @VictoriousJudicialRepublican from Illinois disagreed…5mos5MO

You raise a valid point about the primary role of educators. However, it's worth considering that teachers already take on multiple roles beyond instruction, including counselor, mentor, and in some cases, protector. Furthermore, the airline industry provides an interesting parallel. After the 9/11 attacks, pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a Federal Flight Deck Officer program. The main role of a pilot is to fly the plane, not to provide security, yet this measure has proven effective and hasn't detracted from their primary responsibilities.

I think if teachers had guns then school shootings would happen less because people who want to shoot up places dont shoot up republican areas because right wing people are more likely to have guns. If a school shooter walks into a school then the teachers can shoot the school shooter.

 @MindSupr3meCourtGreen from California disagreed…5mos5MO

because people who want to shoot up places dont shoot up republican areas because right wing people are more likely to have guns.

The Sutherland Springs shooting in Texas, which is in a conservative and gun-friendly state, yet this tragedy still occurred. So, the argument that more guns equate to less violence isn't always valid.

 @9G8JNZ4 from California disagreed…5mos5MO

in a space of children and education, possession of a weapon would be highly inappropriate and schools should encourage peace

 @QuicheCharlotteRepublican from California disagreed…5mos5MO

The idea of teachers carrying guns isn't about promoting violence, but about ensuring immediate protection if need be. For example, in rural areas where police response time might be slower, a well-trained, armed teacher could potentially save lives in an extreme situation. What alternative methods of protection would you suggest for these situations?

 @9G46HNKDemocrat  from California agreed…6mos6MO

Teachers absolutely should not be able to carry guns at school. Guns should not be on campus whatsoever and by promoting teachers to keep these in school where all of the students are send the wrong message. Also, there's nothing stopping any student to take it from the teacher and wrongly use a firearm. This should be a non-negotiable term and the fact that every school in America is afraid of gun violence and school shootings provides more to the fact that there should be no guns on campus. Ever.

 @9GN8F23Women’s Equality  from Massachusetts agreed…5mos5MO

Armed teachers can pose a threat to students as it is very easy to shoot students and staff in a school and can also distract the learning environment in the school if students know that a gun is present in the classroom, especially if they are young and do not understand the context of the situation.

 @9GN9ZWKDemocrat from Ohio agreed…5mos5MO

Teachers should not have guns in schools. Although teachers would be required training, its easy to get careless or lose focus for a minute. The likelihood that a student could get ahold of a gun (on purpose or accident), or that a teacher misfires one, are too high to risk. Especially in elementary schools, but high schoolers can be just as dangerous since they might take the gun on purpose.

 @9GN9N84 from Massachusetts agreed…5mos5MO

yes i agree i dont beleive guns should be allowe din schools or classrooms no mateer what the case is

 @9GNC7MF from Nevada agreed…5mos5MO

Armed Teachers are not acceptable to have because they could use that weapon for something else as students will toy around with it if it is loaded.

 @9GNBQGW from Louisiana agreed…5mos5MO

I definitely agree. Teachers should not hold guns. It scares the students, and there is honestly no reason to have guns at school

 @9FZC6XB from California disagreed…6mos6MO

Although it won't fully stop mass shootings it will save lives in instances like the Robb Elementary School shooting, where the shooter enters classrooms. Provided that the armed teachers are trained, have a background check, and keep the firearm locked up when it is not on them.

 @9FZDZG3 from Missouri agreed…6mos6MO

No, because even if the teacher is armed it still isn't safe because you never know what the teacher is gonna do with a firearm in the classroom.

 @9FZD824 from Texas agreed…6mos6MO

Teachers need some type of way of defending the students and themselves. Putting a chair on the door handle and hiding in a corner, will not help!

 @9FZDP8B from California disagreed…6mos6MO

The response to guns is not more guns, if children shouldn't be around LGBTQ teachings then how does a literal gun in the classroom equate. And for the defense, a teacher shouldn't need a gun to defend as the root of the problem is the avaiblity of the guns. Plus schools are readily accessible by police and a teacher wouldn't be trained in the same way the police is to use a firearm.

 @9FZC6XB from California commented…6mos6MO

I never said students shouldn't be around LGBTQ teachings, I'm all for that. Also people that are going to go shoot up a school are going to find a way to get a gun legal or not.

 @WakefulPanther from Utah disagreed…6mos6MO

While it's true that individuals intent on causing harm might find ways around legal barriers, it doesn't mean we should make it easier for them to access firearms. Take the example of Australia, where strict gun laws were enacted following a mass shooting in 1996. They haven't had a massacre since. Now, with regard to arming teachers, it's important to consider the psychological burden it might put on them. They are educators, not law enforcement officers. How do you propose we address the potential stress and fear that could be created in schools by arming teachers?

 @9FZDFL5Independent from Virginia disagreed…6mos6MO

Guns around children is never a good idea, teachers can't watch a whole room of kids at one time, mistakes happen, and it would be too easy for a child to get a hold of a gun.

 @9GDH2F8 from Guam agreed…5mos5MO

Arming teachers is a contentious and potentially dangerous approach to school security. The data suggests that most teachers lack the necessary training and expertise, and the presence of firearms in schools can create a fearful and stressful environment for both students and educators. There are documented cases of accidents and negligence involving armed personnel in schools, and alternative, less risky measures should be considered to enhance school safety.

According to a report by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the majority of teachers lack law…  Read more

I think teachers should allowed to be armed, but only if they have special training. If they generally care about the kids that they are teaching they would want to protect them. Teachers being armed should not be a known thing amongst the students of each school so it doesn't create a fearful environment.

 @Duck2002Socialistfrom New York disagreed…5mos5MO

In the 2016 shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, trained law enforcement officials accidentally shot some of the victims during the chaos. This highlights the potential risk of having guns in the school environment, even in the hands of trained teachers.

 @9GDHB8G from Oklahoma disagreed…5mos5MO

The teacher can decided wether or not to carry a firearm. Those who would will have already taken concealed carry classes when they applied for their permit. These classes do not let you pass just becouse you have a gun and paid. They are required by law to pass certian requirments.

 @9GYTGHDIndependence  from Pennsylvania agreed…5mos5MO

A child could hurt themself with the firearm, a teacher could go mad and shoot any misbehaving students or staff members, and police stations should just be put closer to schools.

 @9GY7QLW  from California disagreed…5mos5MO

Shooters will always go where it is safest for them. A classroom with a trained armed teacher is the last place they’ll go.

 @9GY9GJS from Georgia agreed…5mos5MO

I agree with the whole concept of teachers being armed because. As said in the caption above, shooters are usually cowards who find spaces with people who are defenseless and can be put in harm's way which is why they go to schools. Having armed teachers makes these shooters scared because they know they're not in control of the situation anymore.

 @9GY933Q from Texas agreed…5mos5MO

I agree with this statement because armed teachers could very well a stop to potential school shooters.

  Deleteddisagreed…5mos5MO

I believe that allowing trained teachers to carry firearms can enhance school security. It's important to prioritize the safety of our children, and armed teachers can provide a rapid response in the event of a school shooting, which could save a lot of lives. However, it's crucial to ensure that arming teachers remains an effective option so comprehensive training programs must be in place to address concerns about accidents or misuse of firearms.

 @9GCX7S9 from California disagreed…5mos5MO

It could be harmful depending on the person and what they could do as well as kids could find it and possibly hurt themselves

 @9GCXPXD from New York disagreed…5mos5MO

I don't think that anyone in the school grounds should carry a firearm. Including Teachers I don't think kids should be seeing Guns at such a young age.

 @9FVTCK4Democrat from Nebraska disagreed…6mos6MO

Look back on previous events. If there had been an armed teacher, granted with proper gun safety and drill training, those teachers could’ve protect not just their class, but all the students in the school.

 @9FYGXH9Libertarian  from California disagreed…6mos6MO

As long as they’re adequately trained in the use of firearms, having staff members be armed in the case of a school shooter enter the premises could immediately stop the killing of so many children

The right to defend the life of ourselves and others. Standing our ground and not backing down in the face of evil.

 @9H7J6KC from Georgia disagreed…4mos4MO

It would be okay until someone may get a hold of a gun or a teacher goes crazy. In this world you juts never know.

 @9H7J5HY from Florida disagreed…4mos4MO

Altercations between students and teachers would be nearly impossible to avoid, and the increased rate of incidents would offset the value of stopped school shootings by opening up opportunities for biased teachers to act out and justify it by saying they “feel” threatened. A possible tool for systemic discrimination is not going to solve the core issue behind school shootings.
