An 18-year-old citizen should be required to serve at least one year of military service because being in the military makes men masculine and women feminine which is how it should be and if you want to have a strong country the citizens are going to be the first people you think about and today American citizens are not so strong so serving one year will improve mindset strength and growth and friendship and communication.

 @9GFBLDH from Kentucky disagreed…6mos6MO

I do not think that an 18 year old citizens should have t serve at least 1 year in the military. If that happens then nobody will want to be a citizen anymore because who wants to serve in the military, also we didn't sign up for it so why should we have to do it just because were 18.

 @9GFB9GQdisagreed…6mos6MO

Citizens should not be required to serve one year because we all have rights and our country is a free country, Citizens shouldn't have to do something they don't want.

 @9GFB5KK from New Jersey agreed…6mos6MO

I agree that all should serve so they have the training and our country will not be filled with unmotivated lazy humans.

 @Independ3ntFredGreenfrom Virgin Islands disagreed…6mos6MO

The notion that military service enhances masculinity in men and femininity in women perpetuates certain gender stereotypes. Every individual, regardless of their gender, possesses a unique blend of traits that don't necessarily align with traditional gender norms.

Instead of mandating military service, what if we offered more opportunities for all citizens to engage in diverse community services, allowing them to develop these critical skills, while also contributing to society?

Serving in the military can provide structure, discipline, and a sense of purpose to individuals who may have lost their way. It can offer them an opportunity for personal growth, instilling values like responsibility, teamwork, and respect.

Secondly, the military provides training and skills that can be transferable to civilian life. It can equip individuals with valuable job skills, increasing their chances of successful reintegration into society. This can contribute to reducing recidivism rates and promoting productive citizenship.

Lastly, mandatory military service can serve as a deterrent for individuals who may be on the path to criminal behavior. The prospect of military service may encourage them to reconsider their choices and steer them toward a more positive direction.

 @9GCXNQF from West Virginia disagreed…6mos6MO

Military should be completely optional, each individual has a career path that they want to pursue with freedom.

The USA is a country of free will, therefore people shouldn't be required to serve in the military if they don't want too.

 @9G2PWYS  from Wisconsin disagreed…7mos7MO

"No, why? Explain your reasoning as to why you think they shouldn't, I need every detail on your opinion otherwise, I would feel it's invalid."

 @9G2S9T8 from Washington disagreed…7mos7MO

The Military is not for the weak and takes immense hard work and effort. Not every American is fit for the job. However, if there was a war and we were low we would need to have a draft. Given that America is a fully developed country and has a lot chance of being attacked as of right now there is no need.

 @9G2RYL6Peace and Freedomdisagreed…7mos7MO

not everyone wants to be in the military so it would be like taking away their freedom and rights as a human being.

 @9GFRDHS from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

just look at the GEN Z and forwards, those kids are in dire need of discipline, the crimes are on all time high mostly by 18 - 30 year olds, they need to be corrected before they enter society as functional men, able to both work and defend the nation whenever its needed.
if it was for me i'd reinstate conscription, the shark attack, yelling and allowing drill sargeants to hit heavy undisiciplined recruits

 @9GGQTQNIndependence  from New York disagreed…6mos6MO

Partaking in military services should be absolutely optional as there are dangers that come with joining. and not just anyone should be forced to do it.

 @CleverTradeTariffIndependentfrom Idaho disagreed…6mos6MO

Lets remember that life itself is full of risks and dangers. Participating in a year of military service can equip our young adults with discipline, resilience, and a sense of responsibility that can benefit them in all areas of life. Israel has a mandatory military service system and it's interesting to observe how it has positively shaped the mindset of their younger generation. They are well-disciplined, courageous, and have a strong sense of nationhood.

 @GloomyRatPeace and Freedomfrom Michigan disagreed…6mos6MO

The notion that Gen Z and younger generations need military discipline to correct societal issues may be an oversimplification of the problem. Norway, a country that consistently ranks as one of the most peaceful in the world. They focus heavily on education, social services, and community engagement as a means of instilling discipline and reducing crime rates. This approach fosters a sense of responsibility and empathy in young citizens, without resorting to force or aggression.

 @9GG2TV5 from Nevada agreed…6mos6MO

I feel like if all kids had a Mandatory Military Service it would help install discipline and give a good foundation to how they act.

 @9GGK52VGreen from Texas agreed…6mos6MO

Nobody should be forced to risk their life every day, and live with PTSD, anxiety, or other physical disabilities for the rest of their lives. Many veterans end up homeless, which should never be a result of something someone was forced to do.

 @9GGQSL4Peace and Freedom from New Jersey agreed…6mos6MO

I think every 18 year old shouldn't have to do any military service because most people aren't mentally or physically built for that and most have their life going another direction

 @9GHRT48Peace and Freedom from Idaho agreed…6mos6MO

I do not see the use of forcing people to risk their lives, i am fine with people volunteering but don't agree with it being mandatory

 @9GZF69G from North Carolina disagreed…5mos5MO

It teaches valuable life skills, and will help with public health and basic life skills that most people could use.

 @9G2HG9Rdisagreed…7mos7MO

I don't really know what this means but, I think that people should have a choice unless they aren't planning on working, are into crime and or don't do anything for themselves.

 @9FLBVZQ from California agreed…7mos7MO

i believe in freedom for all people and that they have their own rights to decide whether or not they want to serve.

 @9GGTBHS from California agreed…6mos6MO

I believe serving in the military is a choice and we have the right to choose here in the US, but also if people where to serve your one year, it would be unfair with no benefits in the military.

 @9GH279Z from Oregon agreed…6mos6MO

18 year olds should not have to go into the military because some kids don’t have the interest of going to the military.

 @9FVLDR7 from Illinois disagreed…7mos7MO

A requirement that people serve in the military or complete other works of service. Modern propositions for compulsory service envision that young Americans could join the military or do civilian projects such as teaching in low-income areas, helping care for the elderly, or maintaining infrastructure, among other ideas. The more service you serve the more knowledge you have for certain VEry important factors that are happening right now

 @9GD8ND7from Guam disagreed…6mos6MO

instill a sense of discipline in the youth, prepare them for disasters, and teach them self-defense and first aid as well.

 @9FT274Y from Ohio disagreed…7mos7MO

I think that we should have at least 2 years of service to represent USA and to also shape our country's people into the right state of mind. I think it also teaches people many lessons and it also helps them get better understandings of the country's situation

It teaches people the value of hard work, service, and patriotism, and will lead to an increase in manpower and gun safety with more experienced people

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas commented…7mos7MO

Who says those are positive or desirable qualities..?

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia commented…7mos7MO

Hard work is at a reasonable level, patriotism with the right mindset is okay, and service in the right circumstances is good, but often the American definitions of these equate to burnout, nationalism, and loyal service to companies that throw you to the side quickly.

 @9G3YSBG from Ohio disagreed…6mos6MO

The youth of America have grown weaker, times have been too easy creating to much of a relaxed population, when in all reality we are at similar tensions to the Cuban Missile Crisis

 @9FVGLXB from California disagreed…7mos7MO

Military service is a way for a young man or woman to mature themselves and gain experience in high stress situations, which would increase leadership, maturity and wisdom

 @9FWN3SG from California disagreed…7mos7MO

They should keep this system in case of a world wide crisis so the men that signed up can help keep our nation protected

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas commented…7mos7MO

 @9GGDP5HPeace and Freedom from California agreed…6mos6MO

I believe that no one should join if they don't have to because most people that go in dont come out the same. also it would be manipulated by the rich

 @9G3WY3NRepublicandisagreed…6mos6MO

Americans are weak today so serving time might help you back on the right track. on top of that if you sacrifice some of your time for your country, you might think twice before saying that you want to tear the whole thing down (hopefully).

 @9GCSBR2 from Connecticut disagreed…6mos6MO

By a person doing military service for 1 year, it gives that person discipline in which they can carry on outside of the military. This also strengthens the countries defense, and it would stop idiots who do not know how to use weapons from doing stupid stuff, due to the fact that they would have been giving proper training with gun discipline, and that would have been drilled into their brains until they could and knew it like the back of their hand.

 @9FGS3G9Independent from Illinois agreed…7mos7MO

it makes no sense for an 18-year-old fresh out of high school to join the military for 2 years and deprive them of a potential college education after high school.

 @9GRB6JD from Illinois disagreed…6mos6MO

Mandatory military service would do the following:
- Instill a sense of dedication to our country and service to others
- Teach structure and discipline
- Teach and require gun safety

 @9FXV3VN from Texas disagreed…7mos7MO

I believe that the military is a very discipline environment and it be good education to so many tudents who know nothing about hard work and self work.

 @9FWC9PW from Iowa disagreed…7mos7MO

If you want a say in how the country is run then you must be able to understand and help that system run.

 @9GB4CX2Republican from California disagreed…6mos6MO

i feel its wrong because ur forcing a human being to do something they dont, and make them loose their life especially if their not menially that strong.

 @9G4VKKH from Connecticut disagreed…6mos6MO

Despite my intense opinions on an extreme lack of government interference in one's lives doing this would produce more disciplined and hard-working citizens.

 @9FRJ9WS from Florida disagreed…7mos7MO

They should keep this system in case of a world wide crisis so the men that signed up can help keep our nation protected.

 @9FJ96SR from Kansas agreed…7mos7MO

uh well i belive in total freedom and no matter what you are you should not be forced to do anything you dont want to do.

 @9GHJ9WW from Florida agreed…6mos6MO

If the person is only 18 they should be going to college or doing something meaningful in their lives. Going to the military straight after high school and imagine if something happen to you , you didn't get the chance to live your life to the fullest.

 @9GG934J from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

Sure, sure then when some war or battle happen who do you think will protect you. In order to appreciate the service if said people you too have to experience what they do, besides it helps the country overall as most of their citizens would be able to defend both themselves and their country when absolutely needed.

 @9FSK7W7 from Texas disagreed…7mos7MO

Mandatory Military Service would not only boulster our numbers, but instill many traits into young men and women.
