While I mostly agree with you that crime needs to be dealt with at the root cause, and that authorizing police use of military weapons can lead to an abuse of power, possibly even an escalation of violence, I want to point out that the decrease of police funding has lead to an increase of violence as well. I believe the police need to be funded and trained to protect our communities. Not defunded. I do think the police should have some contingencies for use of military weapons, but I would need more info on the types of weapons and what would constitute as an emergency. As it stands, the question is too vague for an informed response. “Military Weapons” could be anything from guns to missiles, and “Emergencies” could be anything from active gang violence to someone suffering a mental break on public transport. Both could be considered emergencies, but would require completely different responses.
