Logic, reason, and evidence should instead dictate state politics. This is not to say that a person's religious beliefs, or lack thereof, won't influence the policies they support or reject. That said, religious organisations, such as the Catholic Church, should not have a say in politics. They may voice their opinions, but that is the extent at which their political power should go.
