People who are mentally ill shouldn't be trusted with guns either because we don't know what they are going through and what they might do with a gun if they were given one.
Yes, I agree. Those who have committed violence before or who are mentally unstable should not be allowed to have a gun with which they could hurt or kill people.
@9GYZHR46mos6MO
I agree with this statement. Based on the criminal offense of the person and their mental health capacity that should determine if they are allowed to own a gun and be trusted.
@9H3KQ8H6mos6MO
But you can't judge a book by its cover. A person out of jail may be reformed enough to have a gun.
@9GYQ6LR6mos6MO
People with a criminal history that can be outlined, especially violent ones should be banned from having or even going near a firearm. Although, someone who is suffering from a mental illness privately cannot be identified, they should be given a psych evaluation when trying to purchase a gun and be closely documented on reasons of purchase. I agree.
@9GYPKQC6mos6MO
I don't think criminals should have access to guns. I think that some people can have guns but not everyone.
Both yes and no. There should be strict regulations and protocols on buying and owning a gun. You can’t have a certain criminal background, you can’t be a felon, and you can’t have certain mental disorders such as depression, bi-polar, Schizophrenia and things such as that where you don’t always control your own mind.
I agree with this statement, I believe that we need to look at background checks in order to be able to purchase a gun or sell them.
If someone have criminal background and they try and purchase a gun I think they should be denied it because you have no proof that they won’t harm anyone with it
@9GZNNTL6mos6MO
Criminals should not be trusted with firearms. For those with mental issues, it depends on the condition and the severity.
@9H57CCZ6mos6MO
I agree, as a teen I would like to feel safe in town and the other places I'm going to, I shouldn't have to worry about someone pulling a trigger to my (or someone else) head
@9GXBZ8F6mos6MO
I believe that guns should be banned in the United States, or if not severely regulated. Anyone who has a criminal history, violent tendencies, mental health issues in their past or in their family, or any record of threatening comments should not be allowed a gun. If someone does pass a background check they must take a training course, be given strict regulations, and be visited by officials trained in firearm safety regularly to see if the weapon is being kept away from children, maintained properly, and not illegally updated or changes.
How would the government go about determining who is '100%' reformed ? Furthermore what about non violent crimes, do they also deserve this right removed especially considering those living in lower income areas have more of a reason to need a gun for self defense.
@9GY8CKY6mos6MO
How do we measure the level of reform and if that reform is true? Gun control restrictions should be stricter and those who have committed a crime using gun violence should never have access to weapons, legally, again. If it is a minor who has committed gun violence, the owner of the gun should also be punished as well as the minor. I believe all minors who commit crimes with gun violence should be tried as adults.
@9GXB5GC 6mos6MO
I agree with this statement, but only if the criminal had violent crimes on their record. Mentally ill and violent people can be harmful to themselves and others and should not be trusted with a firearm.
@9GZVMFW6mos6MO
This notion is why "red flag" laws exist, though unfortunately not in all states. "Red flag" laws allow guns to be confiscated from individuals if authorities have been alerted to mental health concerns and violent behavior.
@9H2SDDQ6mos6MO
I completely agree and also believe there needs to be reform in the process to buy a gun, expanding background checks.
@9GXCLS4 6mos6MO
I believe that stricter gun laws should be more so about the person, not the type of gun. Convicted felons of a violent crime should be barred from owning a gun, along with those “mentally unfit” unless they are on medication and can prove they are mentally available to have possession of such a deadly weapon.
@9GXHQFY6mos6MO
I agree with this statement, guns are a bigger deal but have become so normalized. I think that some people are at higher risk of owning a firearm and there should be limits on getting a gun.
@9GXRT566mos6MO
I agree with this. Risks should not be taken and I believe citizens shouldn’t have access to guns in the first place. A risk taken could mean lives lost, and we’ve already had too much of that to speak of.
@9GXPYGL6mos6MO
I agree as people can easily snap and regress back into violent rages with guns. Also I agree with mentally ill people a suggestion is nonfatal self defense objects like tasers, pepper spray etc
I think people are not supposed to have guns unless it has something to do with protection and don't have many test that includes how to control your anger just in case they shoot someone in anger.
@9H4V3DM6mos6MO
Yes, I think people who have a criminal history period shouldn't be allowed to own a gun. And people who are mentally ill shouldn't be allowed either.
@9GZS7QS6mos6MO
Anyone that is likely to use a gun to kill someone for something other than self-defense shouldn’t be able to purchase a gun.
@9GZQH3L6mos6MO
I completely agree. No one knows the true intentions of someone and I doubt that could be figured out with some psychological exams. It's best to take precautions against anything.
@9H7NRMZ6mos6MO
I do agree with gun control people need to make it illegal to have a firearm for kids and adults because people are crazy and they would just kill anyone they see for no reason which is messed up and that’s why the government need to make it illegal and not allowed to have guns
@9H2C3FGRepublican6mos6MO
Absolutely. It's constitutional to own guns until you're not in a state of mind to safely own one or have a criminal record showing you cant be trusted.
@9GYRDJJ6mos6MO
Anyone who has shown a history of violence or have done some hanise action then they should have no access to fire arms of any kind.
@9GXY9SDRepublican6mos6MO
people with criminal histories that include violence or drugs should not be allowed to posses guns or recieve concealed Carry or FOID card. the mentally ill should not have access to them either because they are unpredictable
@9GXCHQC6mos6MO
I agree with this statement, guns should not be allowed unless they are for hunting, or for the police and military.
@9GXDRFD6mos6MO
I very much agree, access to guns should be far more regulated in the USA. Especially things like gun shows which bypass basically all of the regulation that is there right now shouldn’t be allowed. As an outside viewer on the US from Germany, I am a bit shocked at the prevelance and availability of deadly weapons. I think passing training courses and tests in form of a gun license should also be necessary to own a gun.
@9GXHFNC6mos6MO
No. People have the right to own guns even if they are mentally ill or have been criminalized in the past. The only thing that keeps them from owning a gun is if they have done a horrible crime and have been suspended from owning weapons.
@9GXCFW86mos6MO
The criminal history part I agree with, but not the mental ill. Not every person who has committed a mass murder with a weapon was mentally ill or had a record of checking their mental health. If you want terrible gun violence, have a complete ban.
@9H484JR6mos6MO
People with a criminal history should not be trusted with a gun. Reformed or not they should not be trusted. People with a mental illness should not be trusted with a gun either.
@9GY25KF6mos6MO
I totally agree, we need to increase precautions to make sure guns are out of the hands of people are ok mentally.
@9GXF6SFWomen’s Equality6mos6MO
i do agree with this just for our safety i would say though the criminal history should just not be allowed a gun if they were charged with gun
@9GXCCR56mos6MO
I agree with this statement because given with the criminal history, they can go insane when using it.
